Persisting Against All Odds: Refusing to Give Up

I’m not here to take from you, rather to build with you.

Due to my love and profound respect for the organization, I prefer not to mention any names and will simply refer to it as “company.”

“Take Your Kid to Work Day” at “Company”

Well, my mom took me to “Company” for training, not just for the experience, but to remind me of my roots. We chose “Company” because it was conveniently close. Kudos to “Company” — it’s an amazing workplace, they really treat their employees with love, respect, care, and support.

First Impressions at “Company”

On my first day at “Company” after getting hired, I actually asked if they had an app for their payment portal. For a moment, I forgot I wasn’t at a client meeting but there to work. My mom gave me a look, and I realized, “Oh yeah, we’re here to work.”

Seeing all these people work with love and no complaints while I could barely stand… It was eye-opening. After my first day, I got home, forgot about a team meeting, took a quick shower, and crashed into bed. The next day, I struggled to get up, but I did.
My mom lovingly told me, “Look at all these wonderful people. Always remember your roots. When you reach great heights, return with a helping hand for others.”

When I saw my paycheck, I asked them to cut me a check for the rest lol. Yeah, I won’t forget. I always had to wear a mask to cover my face, hoping to remain anonymous.

Spreading Joy and Creating Traditions

On Christmas, we wanted to make the morning shift team smile by giving them gifts. They were so surprised, but for us, it was second nature and it just felt right. Making others happy fills our hearts with joy. They said it had never happened before at “Company,” and we started a new tradition. The gift bags were custom made and had my name, raising questions from them if I owned the business. I downplayed it, but I could sense my time there was coming to an end as some checked out my Instagram and LinkedIn.

Then came this lovely lady (let’s call her “lady”), an incredible woman — a wife, mom, and dedicated worker. She became a friend, and we kept in touch.

After my “training” ended, I took away three things: more love in my heart to help others, the reminder to never forget where I came from, and the ambition to make this work so I can serve more people and help them feed their families.

I love “Company.” It’s truly a great place to work, and I’ll definitely go back to visit the friends I made and continue the tradition my mom and I started of giving back.

You don’t give up when you can’t give up.
