Integrity Equals Self-Worth: The Vital Role of Keeping Your Word
Someone who knows his worth, keeps his word. — Marion Bekoe
There are moments when I’ve promised to do something but was unable to follow through due to circumstances beyond my control. In such cases, I strive to make amends, but I prefer to say no upfront rather than agree to something I can’t deliver. I understand the significance of my word as a reflection of my self-worth and strive to avoid making commitments lightly.
When faced with choices, it is important to learn to say no and to apologize when necessary. While someone may be momentarily disappointed, they will appreciate the honesty rather than dealing with false hope and subsequent disappointment.
I’ve experienced my fair share of disappointment, both given and received, but I choose to find value in every situation. I’m grateful to those who have broken their promises, as these experiences have taught me two important lessons: First, I learned to transform disappointments into opportunities. Second, I committed to keeping my word to others because I understand the impact of broken promises.
Not everyone can easily overcome disappointment, but those who do should strive to avoid inflicting it on others.
Startups should prioritize following through on their commitments, always striving to do their best. If they can’t fulfill a promise, it’s acceptable to say no.
At Cosgn, we understand the importance of keeping our word, as it forms the foundation of trust and defines our relationship with you. Our services, such as Cosgn credit, enable startups to start without upfront costs, while Cosgn share helps startups discover available services and grow within a community of fellow entrepreneurs.
