The Virtue of Honesty and Discipline in Decision Making
Honest and disciplined decisions are almost never regretted. — Marion Bekoe
In a world where putting oneself first is common, making decisions that prioritize the greater good over personal gain can be a challenging endeavor. Sacrifice and selfishness may seem like two sides of the same coin, but their outcomes couldn’t be more different—one serves others, while the other serves only the self.
For me, the choice to prioritize sacrifice over selfishness has been a guiding principle in my decision-making process. Despite the knowledge that some may take advantage of my kindness, compassion, and giving mindset, I refuse to let cynicism cloud my judgment. In a society where self-serving behavior is the norm, it’s easy to become disillusioned. But I firmly believe that true leadership requires sacrifice, a willingness to put the needs of others above our own.
Startups, too, will inevitably encounter individuals who seek to exploit their kindness and generosity. It’s important not to let such experiences deter you from your mission. Instead, view them as opportunities for growth and learning. Surround yourself with individuals who share your values and vision, and don’t hesitate to disassociate yourself from those who seek to undermine your efforts.
